While hearing the bail petition of Sanjay Yadav, Justice S.K. Yadav stated that elections and rallies could be held later if people are able to survive the pandemic. “Under Article 21 of our Constitution, we have the right to life,” he explained.
Justice Yadav began by expressing his displeasure with the growing number of Covid cases. “Several countries, like China, the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, and Scotland, have instituted partial or entire lockdown in response to this escalating threat,” he claimed, adding that “the third wave is knocking on our door.” The devastation caused by the second wave has already been witnessed. During panchayat elections and West Bengal elections, a substantial number of people were infected.”
“Now is the time for the UP elections. Parties are conducting large demonstrations with tens of thousands of people, making Covid protocol impossible to follow. The consequences would be far worse than the second wave if it is not stopped in time."
